this baby does rust. i assumed that it was because i did not leave door open during summer months. however, it certainly generates a lot of heat. almost impossible to stand in front of stove when set a high settings nos 4 or 5. was very noisy when first purchased but serviceman corrected problem by changing exhaust fan which was not balanced properly. now it is quiet and heats my whole house ...approx 1600 sq ft. unit is installed in basement and heats all three floors. needs to be run at max for about 1 hour per day to burn off all creosote on inside of stove and exhaust pipes.

Just a quick update. I cleaned it last week getting ready for winter. The burn box and pot along with the heat exchanger tubes are really rusty. I read someplace about Canadian steel rusting. It does not affect the operation but I would not want one in my livingroom. My Englander never rusted in 8 years of use. Too bad it was far inferior burn wise then the VF170. So if you want a pretty looking stove in your room then go for something else. If you want a great burning stove and do not care about the rust, then this is a great unit.

This unit is the exact same unit as the Enviro Maxx-x. Just purchased this last week and got it installed yesterday. I installed it myself using ICC pellet stove pipe. The ICC pipe is much better than DuraVent in my opinion. This thing is a MONSTER! Not in size but in heat output. Heats my entire Cape Cod house including the basement since that is where it is installed. Had it on high for a few hours to get the house warm. After 2 hours I had to turn it down to 1/2 way since the house was at 75. I bought this because I purchased an Enviro Mini for our sun room to take the chill off since my 42,500btu Englander was not working correctly for the past 2 years. I loved the Mini so much I decided to go for the VF170-B. Both stoves are great. Dealer said I will never use the Mini again since this unit pumps out the heat. He was right about the heat but I plan on using the Mini on low in the sun room and this unit on setting 2 for the rest of the house. Best of all I got it for $2,100 instead of $3,550 quoted by my local dealer. I had to drive 1 1/2 hours to get the deal. Distributer doubled ordered by mistake.
